Newsletter August 2018

Dear Real-Estate Friends,

In the last few days it was made public that there was a move to introduce a nationwide register in Switzerland listing "fare evaders using public transport".

For several years now we have been campaigning for a Swiss-wide register of county court judgements that records more than just petty offenders such as fare dodgers – because the lack of transparency in the current register means that the consequential losses experienced by those in the property business are huge and considerably higher than those engendered by fare dodgers on buses or trams. Our property management clients – owners of buildings in multiple occupancy – are repeatedly the victims of fraud perpetrated by tenants who, thanks to the existing legislation, find it very easy to obtain a clean extract from the register of debtors. All they have to do is change their address or locality, and their previous records are suddenly no longer visible. It is a real pity that problems of this magnitude are not addressed at a national level.

With my best regards from the real estate sector,

Claude Ginesta
