Location

With over 22,000 residents, Horgen is indeed a popular residential community on the left banks of Lake Zurich between Oberrieden and Au, with access to the A3 autobahn. Downtown Zurich is about 15 kilometers away, or a 20 minute commute by car. Horgen is the main administrative town in the district of the same name, and at 30.75km², it is also its largest town. The municipal region, half-covered in dense forest, extends from the left banks of the lake to the Sihl Valley and up to the Albis ridge.Horgen borders on the towns of Oberrieden, Thalwil, Hirzel, Wädenswil, Langnau, and Hausen am Albis.

Schools

Horgen has 19 kindergartens and eight primary school buildings in its various neighborhoods. The upper level secondary school students (Oberstufe, or college prep) attend school on a campus of two centrally located buildings. A large range of child daycare options provides modern families with a first class educational infrastructure.

Public transportation

Two train stations offer ideal connections (Horgen, Horgen Oberdorf). The express connection on the S-Bahn brings you to the city within 11 minutes.The car ferry to Meilen departs every 7½ minutes. Regular passenger boats also carry passengers from Horgen to Zurich.Local buses service the local neighborhoods and neighboring towns.

The center of Horgen offers an extensive shopping experience, with diversity of major wholesalers, retail shops, postal services, banks, boutiques and cafés.

The Postauto service links Horgen directly with the Horgenberg recreation area. Horgen has a large array of hotels and restaurants based on a variety of gastronomic concepts.Horgen is home to numerous venues of regional repute; these include the “Schwan” hotel/restaurant in the town center, the town’s “L’O” directly on the lake, the “Schwyzerhüsli” restaurant on the Horgenberg, and “Hanegg,” above the “Arn” sub-district on the path to Hirzel.
