Location
Forch, with its roughly 3,000 inhabitants, is part of the low tax-base municipality of Maur. It lies at an elevation above Lake Zurich, in intact, untrammeled landscape where the sun still beams even when the fog casts its pall over everywhere else.
Public transportation
The Forchbahn railway service connects the Forch Pass directly with Zürich Stadelhofen. The regional bus runs to Klusplatz, while the 744 bus takes its passengers to Stettbach. A 43-minute ride on public transit gets you to Zurich-Kloten airport, or – if traffic is flowing smoothly – a car will get you there in 20 minutes.
Shopping
A VOLG is available in the Scheuren neighborhood, while Ebmatingen, a town just three minutes away by car, is home the nearest Migros, the Coop beverage market, a bakery, and all kinds of services.
Schools
Forch has nurseries, after-school lunch programs, kindergartens, and all levels of schooling. Looren secondary school, just 10 minutes away by bike, is attended by all the community's secondary school students and enjoys a first-class reputation. The campus includes perhaps the most beautiful outdoor athletics facility in the world, thanks to its amazing view of Lake Greifensee. Students can also attend courses where they are taught to dance or play an instrument.
Recreation
The Seebadi Maur pubic beach the tennis and football (soccer) club, the Looren Equestrian Center, and Zumikon Golf Club provide for a premiere level of services within the immediate vicinity. Hotels/restaurants The “Wassberg” hotel, with guest rooms, horse stables, and glorious view of Lake Greifensee, is an outstanding alternative when one is simply not in the mood to cook; of course, the other alternatives include the elegant new “Neue Forch”, with a fireplace and vista terrace, as well as the delightful “Krone” inn.
