Location
Zurich’s District 7 (or Kreis 7) extends from Kreuzplatz over to the center of the Adlisberg, over to the Zoo and onward to Witikon, encompassing all of the Zürichberg. It is one of the most highly desired parts of the City. On the one hand, its owes its appeal to its central location – the university and ETH, the University Medical Center, Kunsthaus, cinemas, museums, galleries and even the Lake can be reached within minutes, either on foot or by tram depending on your location. At the same time, those who live here get to bask in glorious sunlight all day long, enjoying tranquil vistas within truly friendly neighborhoods. Exquisitely beautiful and elegant historic structures beside art nouveau buildings line Scheuchzerstrasse, perhaps the most beautiful street in all of Kreis 7.
Transportation
Travelling on and around the Zürichberg are tram lines 5 and 6, the No. 33 bus line, and the Rigibahn (funicular). A few minutes on public transportation gets passengers into the City, to the Lake, to Zurich Central Station or the verdant natural surroundings.
Schools
The children of the Zürichberg have access to play groups, nurseries, day care centers, kindergartens and elementary, secondary and university education. Rämibühl and Hohe Promenade are cantonal gymnasiums (or college preparatory schools) that offer graduating students all levels of diplomas; there is also a diversity of private schools that offer a first-class education to the middle schools students of Zurich’s Kreis 7.
Shopping
Residents purchase their daily needs at the various major distributors and retail stores; the district also has post offices, banks, and many services.
Recreation
The Zürichberg area offers a wealth of attractive sports and recreational opportunities within immediate proximity: forests and nature trails with wonderful views of the distance that are available for walking, hiking, jogging, and biking; the Zoo; the Dolder Golf Club; the Fluntern athletics facility, outdoor swimming pool and the Dolder ice skating/figure skating rink.
Restaurants
Some of the most popular restaurants include “The Restaurant” in the Dolder Grand Hotel; “Dolder Waldhaus,” “Roter Kamm,” “Outpost,” “Sonnenberg,” and “Plattenhof.” Other favorites include the “Sorell Hotel Zürichberg,” “Bohemia,” “Altes Klösterli,” and “Degenried” – the latter found in a gorgeous clearing in the middle of the forest.
