Location
Nestling in the as yet unspoiled, rural part of Prättigau, Klosters - with its romantic village atmosphere - presents a distinct contrast to its immediate neighbor, the alpine metropolis of Davos. Quite simply, it is a mountain holiday destination straight out of a picture-book, with a chicly presented village in the typical chalet style and authentic traditions coupled with international flair, thanks to its numerous cosmopolitan habitués. The Vereina-Tunnel bypass makes the Engadine easily accessible from here, too.
Public transport connections
Klosters can be reached within 1.5 hours by national rail from Zurich to Landquart, from where there is a local connection with the Rhätische line. The journey is slightly shorter by car.
Schools
There are primary and secondary schools locally. The nearest Gymasiums (selective college preparatory schools) include the Bündner Kantonsschule in Chur, the Schweizerische Alpine Mittelschule Davos and the Sport Gymnasium, also in Davos.
Sports and leisure activities
Winter
Winter sports enthusiasts have access to the whole of Davos's ski arena via the Gotschnabahn, while the smaller, sunny pistes of the Madrisa above Klosters are ideal for the beginner. The Davos-Klosters region also has plenty to offer for the off-pister or ski-touring enthusiast. Cross-country skiers have a wide choice of terrain in the immediate vicinity as well as in the Landwassertal (Davos), while snowboarders are drawn to the Jakobshorn near Davos. Non-skiers can choose from winter walking trails, horse-drawn sledges, toboggan runs and snow-shoe trekking - as well as a broad selection of après-ski and nightlife venues, both in Klosters itself and, especially, in nearby Davos.
Summer
The holiday destination of Prättigau/Klosters/Davos, with its 700km of walking routes, offers everything from paths suitable for a buggy to more demanding mountain touring. In addition to various educational trails introducing the natural surroundings, local geology and woodland, the so-called "energy walk" and herb garden on the Madrisa above Klosters both offer a truly unique experience. Madrisa-Land, an alpine adventure park, leads visitors into a world of myths and fairy tales, a place where you can hear about more than 90 local legends and folklore from the region. The park is also accessible to those with physical or visual impairment. Cyclists and mountain bikers have a number of tracks of varying degrees of difficulty in the area around Klosters and one of the highlights is the Gotschna Freeride Piste: 6km long, this is a spectacular roller-coaster of a ride for mountain bikers, with over 200 steep curves, high ramps and hard waves propelling you down towards Klosters.
