Location

The mega-hip urban district “Stadtkreis 5” – Zurich’s historic industrial quarter, one of the largest development zones in Zurich, and a powerful emblem for the progress of urban development – is connected to Zurich Central Station. It covers the area between the railway tracks and the Sihl and Limmat rivers, heading west to the Hardturmstadion. Though it is the pinnacle of urban living, this city district also lies close to local recreation areas, such as the Werdinsel and the Josefwiese, the Limmat bathing facilities, the Fahr Cloister trail, and Mt. Hönggerberg with its gorgeous nature trails.

Transportation

Zurich West is superbly connected to public and private transportation; the autobahn on-ramps can be reached in no time. Three tram lines (4, 13, and 17) and the No. 33 bus line all provide service to Kreis 5, as do the No. 5, 6, and 9 S-Bahn lines, which stop at the Hardbrücke Station.

Schools

Kreis 5 has a diversity of kindergartens, and all levels of elementary and secondary schools; the public gymnasiums (college prep schools) are located in Oerlikon, at Stadelhofen, on Rämistrasse, in Wiedikon and in Enge. At the same time, this urban district features a thorough array of universities and technical colleges of every nature, such as the Zurich University for the Arts, the KV Zürich Business School, the Toni Campus, the School of Design, the Fashion Design Institute, the Migros Klubschule, and several more.

Shopping

You get everything your heart desires (and more) in Kreis 5. Several grocery stores, boutiques, fashion studios, and designer retail shops offer a comprehensive range of options. In city district 5, under the arches of the elevated railway viaduct, there's also a unique passage of shops and Zurich’s first market hall (with meeting points for local children).

Recreation

Kreis 5 has transformed itself from an industrial zone to a leisure and recreation district. Museums, galleries, auction houses, the playhouse, studios, and musical theaters, bars, jazz clubs, discos, cinemas as well as playgrounds for children and the youth cultural center provide for a superlative range of recreational options. Naturally, Kreis 5 also offers fitness clubs, dance schools, the Pétanque-Club and many other options to keep you fit and trim. A large selection of clubs and associations enhance the leisure and recreation options.

Restaurants

An endless selection of restaurants of every possible gastronomic persuasion leaves you with a tough choice to make in Kreis 5. Particularly prized (and so advanced reservations are mandatory) include: “Clouds” restaurant in Prime Tower; “Angkor” in Puls 5; “Maison Blunt,” the “Bernoulli” tavern, the “Marktkhalle,” “Alpenrose”, “Viadukt,” the “LaSalle” at the shipbuilding yard, as well as “Sala of Tokyo” – to name but a handful of choices.
