Location
Küsnacht, home to a good 13,000 inhabitants, can be found in the District of Meilen on the sunny right banks of Lake Zurich along Switzerland’s famous Gold Coast.
Imposing mansions stand proudly alongside handsome residential developments with expansive gardens on both sides of the imposing Küsnacht ridge, toward the Itschnach and Allmend subdivisions at the upper elevations; the Goldbach and Heslibach subdivisions are equally verdant and well-manicured. Numerous hamlets with picturesque farmsteads dot the landscape from Küsnachter Berg to the Forch Pass.
Public transportation
At 15-minute intervals, the S-Bahn (S6 and S16 lines) will take you to Zurich Stadelhofen Station or Zurich Central Station in 10 minutes; you can reach Zürich-Kloten International Airport in 30 minutes by public transportation. The 912, 916, 918, and 919 bus lines facilitate the local connections to the town via public transportation and, at the same time, also travel to the Bellevue district at the heart of Zurich City. The Lake Zurich ferry, from Meilen to Horgen, can be reached by car in 10 minutes. Passenger ships dock right next to Restaurant Sonne, and where passengers who prefer to travel at a leisurely pace to Bürkliplatz climb on board.
Shopping
In Küsnacht, you can buy almost everything for you need for everyday – and much more. The attractive, historic town center has a splendid array of stores – from supermarkets and delicatessens to shoemakers or cobblers to the most refined and elegant boutiques. Visitors will not be disappointed at the appealing and rich variety of retail shops and specialty stores.
Schools
The town has seven kindergartens, five primary schools, one secondary school, one public gymnasium (college preparatory school), a vocational school, the Terranova and Lakeside private schools (bilingual German/English), and a music school. Students attending the International Community School ICS in Zumikon are picked up in the morning and brought back home in the evenings by the local school bus. Nurseries, after-school lunch programs and day-nurseries see to the children when the schools have closed their doors for the day.
Recreation
The Küsnacht ridge, attractive lakeside paths, numerous sports facilities and a large number of clubs of an athletic or cultural orientation invite you to participate in recreational activities. The theater society and the “Concerts in Küsnacht” performances enrich the overall cultural program.
