Review of a brilliant weekend under the sign of architecture

In beautiful summer weather, the Engadin and Bergell opened their doors on 24 and 25 June: Open Doors Engadin provided insights into outstanding buildings from various eras.

The second edition of the free architecture event was an impressive success: the atmosphere was good to exuberant, there was consistently enthusiastic feedback from the visitors. Among other things, the diverse range of offers, the expert guided tours and the successful organisation were very well received. The 91 buildings, outdoor spaces, thematic tours, architectural walks in nine villages and supporting events attracted a total of 4,700 visitors. Many of the events were fully booked well in advance. Motivated architects, experts and volunteers completed 270 tours in two days.

The architecture aperitif on Saturday evening, which took place this year at the Grace La Margna Hotel, was also very well attended. A preview, so to speak, as the legendary Art Nouveau hotel will reopen after its renovation in the course of the summer: Architecture enthusiasts met in the noble ambience of the bar to exchange ideas. Christian Jott Jenny, mayor of this year's patron municipality of St. Moritz, declared in his speech: "Open Doors Engadin is already an event that we can no longer imagine doing without".

As a regionally anchored real estate marketer, Ginesta supported this important architectural event again this year. For Ginesta, it was already clear at the first edition that Open Doors Engadin is an important event that absolutely must be supported. After all, the buildings that surround people play a decisive role in shaping the quality of a region, and in the Engadin and Bergell we can be truly proud of what was once built, what is being built today and what will be built in the future, for example with the InnHub La Punt - which, by the way, is also one of the objects of this year's event.

This year, four lucky winners of the Ginesta competition also had the opportunity to take part in the long-since fully booked guided tour SPECIAL Hartmann and Hartmann. The old school building in St. Moritz, which was built in 1886 by the local architect Nicolaus Hartmann Sen. has an eventful history. Today, the building houses the St. Moritz library and the secondary school. The two-hour tour was accordingly very impressive and entertaining.

«The visitors were thrilled by the uniqueness of each individual tour, by the warmth of the residents and by the versatility of the architecture. We thank the ODE organising committee for the successful organisation and are already looking forward to the next Open Doors Engadin in June 2024."
