Location
Illnau-Effretikon, with its more than 16,000 residents, is a multifaceted city between Zurich and Winterthur, in a central location but surrounded by nature. Effretikon forms the urban core of the city, while the incorporated townships of Illnau, Ottikon, Bisikon and nine hamlets are still largely rural in character.
Transportation
The city enjoys the best connections by public transportation services and a connection to the A1 autobahn. You can reach the cities of Winterthur, Zurich, and Zurich-Kloten International Airport in a ten-minute drive by car. Illnau-Effretikon possesses two train stations (Effretikon und Illnau). The S-Bahn takes you from the Effretikon train station several times an hour to Zurich within 23 minutes, and Zurich-Kloten International Airport in 16 minutes. Zurich and Wetzikon can be reached twice an hour from Illnau. You can get there fast, but get away fast as well – an ideal departure point for people on the go.
Schools
The city provides all levels of schooling: More than 160 experienced teachers and instructors at 10 school campuses and 12 kindergartens provide optimal educational care each day for your child, from kindergarten until university. Cantonal schools are in Winterthur and Wetzikon; the universities, including universities of applied sciences, are in Winterthur and Zurich. Speech-language pathology care, psychomotor services and integrated advancement complete the entire range of services at all levels of primary school.

There is a full selection of major retailers and specialty stores of all kinds in Illnau-Effretikon, as well as a municipal infrastructure.
Recreation
Illnau-Effretikon offers an attractive array of leisure, social, and recreational activities: with over one hundred clubs and associations, a sports center (swimming pool, beach volleyball courts, athletic fields, football (soccer) field, ping-pong tables, two skating fields in the winter, a mini-golf course, football (soccer) and tennis courts - and a boccia alley), the well-maintained Robinson Playground (ww.robinsonspielplatz.ch) somewhat outside of Illnau, an interesting cultural program and additional, intact landscape for hiking and biking. And Winterthur – with its world-class cultural offerings – is a mere ten minutes away by car.
Restaurants
More than 30 restaurants and bars with diverse gastronomic designs are available if you wish to go out. The “QN” offers an allround popular “world of delights” with restaurant, first-class wines, cigar lounges, a few guestrooms for overnight stays, and the QN Bar (always with a live band on Friday evenings) which was nominated for the Swiss Bar Award.
