Location

The charming city of Wädenswil – the largest residential community on the upper left banks of Lake Zurich – has a good 20,000 inhabitants.The town lies between Horgen and Richterswil. Administratively part of the district of Horgen, the town is connected to the A3 autobahn.The districts of Au and Berg belong to Wädenswil.

Schools

There are kindergartens in Wädenswil and all levels of primary, secondary and university education, both public and private. Educational services also include international schools, like Zurich International School.

The Oberstufe (college preparatory) level of schooling is administered in conjunction with the neighboring communities of Schönenberg and Hütten. In addition, Wädenswil hosts numerous other educational institutions, such as the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), the R-AU Regional Educational Center, Wädenswil Vocational Training Center, and the Schloss Au Conference Center of the Zurich University of Teacher Education (PH Zürich).

Public transportation

Public transportation ensures swift and convenient access to the surrounding cities of Zürich, Rapperswil and Zug via the A3 national highway and the A2 autobahn via Hirzel. Under normal traffic conditions, you can drive to Zurich City within 15 minutes on the autobahn, and get to the ski resorts of the Alps in just an hour.

Wädenswil is situated on the Zurich/Chur railway line; it is connected with the S2 and S8 S-Bahn lines of the Zurich Transport Network; in addition, the Basel-Zurich-Chur express trains stop in Wädenswil. The Südostbahn (southeast railway) is a convenient means of travel to Einsiedeln.The three Postauto lines provide regular service between Wädenswil and Hirzel, Schönenberg, and Hütten.There are also six local bus lines available to travelers within the city.And for those travelers who would prefer using the Lake Zurich routes instead of the streets, there are regular connections via passenger ships.

The archeological find in Wädenswil known as the Vorder Au is an eminently important prehistoric site. The pile houses, or dwellings on stilts, are protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site called “Prehistoric Lake Dwellings around the Alps.”
