Location
Enge and Wollishofen are traditional, well-preserved adjoining districts with their own train stations: “Kreis 2” is an elegant, optimally-structured residential neighborhood in direct proximity to downtown.
Transportation
Enge and Wollishofen are situated in a very central location: near to the heart of the city (the No. 7 tram to Paradeplatz and Zurich Central Station; the No. 33 bus line over the Zürichberg to Tiefenbrunnen Station), the parks along the shores of Lake Zurich are also in close proximity, as are the Rote Fabrik, the Zoo and the Dolder. Zurich-Kloten International is a mere 24 minutes by S-Bahn from Enge Train Station, and the autobahn interchange to Chur is also nearby. Indeed, the City is veritably outside your front door: Home is always just a few minutes away on foot.
Schools
The children of the Enge and Wollishofen neighborhoods have access to play groups, nurseries, day care centers, kindergartens and elementary, secondary and university education. There is also a very attractive selection of cantonal secondary schools, including the Enge and Freudenberg Gymansiums (college prep schools) and the Liceo Artistico, an associated gymnasium for the arts (or Kunstgymnasium).
Shopping
The route from downtown to Enge train station features a broad array of retail stores and shops of all types, including the beautiful Migros-Markt, retail shops for home furnishings, banks, postal services, and numerous service providers.
Recreation
The selection of sports and recreational options is rich and appealing. The Wollishofen municipal tennis facility (with lake view), multiple athletics courts and playing fields, and the popular public beach resorts of Enge, Mythenquai, and Wollishofen are all available for everyday use, and even offer an evening schedule. Nearby Lake Zurich draws joggers and walkers to the paths along its shores. Numerous clubs and associations give those of Zurich’s Enge district a chance to be active and get involved. And culturally speaking, it’s full steam ahead: the theater festival, the exhibitions at the Rote Fabrik, artist studios and parties, and Museum Rietberg offer a delightfully diverse program of cultural offerings.
