Location

Wallisellen is situated on a slightly sloping location on Mt. Glatt. With its 16'000 inhabitants, it is considered a city within the Zurich agglomeration from a statistical viewpoint.

Transportation

Wallisellen has superb transportation connections, both via public transit as well as private vehicle. The S8 line of the S-Bahn provides service to Winterthur, Zurich Central Station and Pfäffikon SZ, while the S14 services Zurich Central, Oerlikon, Wetzikon, Uster and Hinwil. The autobahn access toward Winterthur, Schaffhausen, St. Gallen, Basel, Bern, and Zurich can all be reached within a few minutes. With good traffic flow, one can drive to Zurich-Kloten International Airport by car in 5 minutes, or take the Glatttalbahn (municipal light rail system) and get there in 18 minutes.

Schools

Wallisellen provides kindergartens, primary schools and a secondary school; in addition, the school district also operates a special community school with a high teacher-to-pupil ratio. The majority of Wallisellen’s schoolchildren who attend a gymnasium usually opt for the gymnasium in Zurich-Oerlikon.

Shopping

An extensive selection of major retailers and specialty retail shops of all kinds await shoppers in Wallisellen. Thanks to the Einkaufszentrum Glatt shopping center, the largest in Switzerland with over 4,500 free parking spaces, there is nothing that you cannot obtain in Wallisellen. Last but not least, a variety of outlets offer affordable brand name products.

Recreation

The town provides an extraordinarily attractive array of sports facilities, including the Curling Center, the Mini-Golf Course, and the Wallisellen sports facilities (such as Water World, Wellness World, and Sport World). At the same time, the landscape, the Moos Nature Preserve, and the Glatt Valley entice visitors to enjoy an extended stay amidst nature. A large selection of clubs and associations of cultural and athletic orientation compliment the selection of recreation and leisure options.

Restaurants

There are plenty of tables to serve the guests at more than 20 restaurants – which include some located in the Einkaufszentrum Glatt. The restaurant “Zum Doktorhaus” is especially popular – it has a beer garden, bar/lounge and smoking room, and always offers excellent dishes fresh from the day's market.
